Piedmont Wind Symphony Announces Bold and Expansive 2025–26 Season

WINSTON-SALEM, NC (June 27, 2025) — Piedmont Wind Symphony is thrilled to unveil its 2025–26 season, a dynamic and adventurous lineup that spans symphonic masterpieces, genre-bending pops concerts, intimate chamber experiences, and vibrant community events across the Piedmont Triad.
Under the baton of Artistic Director and Conductor Mark A. Norman, the season launches August 13, 2025, and continues through June 2026, with highlights including the world premiere of Rivers Ascending by Composer-in-Residence James Syler, a multimedia performance of Pictures at an Exhibition, and a spellbinding symphonic rendering of Johan de Meij’s The Lord of the Rings conducted by the composer himself.
2025–26 Season Highlights
SYMPHONIC SERIES
Performed at Brendle Recital Hall, Wake Forest University
Lord of the Rings November 1, 2025 – 7:30PM Johan de Meij conducts his own groundbreaking Symphony No. 1 – The Lord of the Rings, joined by percussionists Ksenija Komljenović and Antek Olesik. Also featuring music by Chen Yi and Emmanuel Séjourné, this concert promises a fantastical journey through Middle-earth.
Syler Symphony No. 1 “Blue” February 21, 2026 – 7:30PM Featuring soprano Elizabeth Pacheco Rose, tubist Brent Harvey, the Winston-Salem Symphony Chorus led by Chris Gilliam, and Composer-in-Residence James Syler. The program includes the world premiere of Rivers Ascending, and the emotionally charged Symphony No. 1 "Blue", a powerful meditation on the human spirit.
Pictures at an Exhibition May 1, 2026 – 7:30PM A multimedia presentation of Mussorgsky’s iconic suite, paired with Gala Flagello’s climate-themed concerto The Bird-While, featuring soloists from “The President’s Own” United States Marine Band.
CHAMBER SERIES
Live at Footnote Coffee & Cocktails, blending music with craft drinks and casual ambiance.
Beer & Brass – August 13, 2025 With Ardmore Brass and Foothills Brewing’s Oktoberfest brew.
Beats & Brews – October 15, 2025 A percussion-forward evening with Antek Olesik, Ksenija Komljenović, and UNCSA Percussion Ensemble.
Reeds on Tap – January 21, 2026 Featuring the distinctive wind ensemble Quintet Sirocco, known for its adventurous instrumentation.
COMMUNITY SERIES
Piedmont Pops Incendiary Brewing (Downtown & Lewisville) August 31, September 6, June 18 & 27 These free-to-the-public concerts celebrate movie scores, Broadway hits, and patriotic favorites in a family-friendly, open-air setting.
Oktoberfest Series Incendiary Brewing (Downtown, Greensboro, Lewisville) September 20, 27 & October 5 Join PWS’s German Band for festive tunes, bratwurst, and brews.
POPS SERIES AT THE RAMKAT
Boogie Winter Wonderland December 16, 2025 – 7:30PM A funky, festive celebration featuring Myk’l Hanna, Nishah DiMeo, and Michael Kinchen with the PWS Brass & Percussion section.
Disco Inferno March 31, 2026 – 7:30PM A dance party with hits from Donna Summer, KC and the Sunshine Band, and more. Disco attire encouraged!
