Cupid's Park Theatre, Körner’s Folly
Experience the beauty and reverence of the holiday season through one of North Carolina’s most cherished musical traditions.
Presented in collaboration with Körner’s Folly, this December concert celebrates the rich heritage of Moravian holiday brass music, a tradition that dates back more than three centuries. Originating in the Moravian communities of central Europe and carried to North Carolina in the 18th century, this distinctive musical practice has become a defining sound of the Christmas season—especially in Winston-Salem and the surrounding region.
Moravian brass music is rooted in the belief that music is both a form of worship and a gift to the community. Performed historically from church towers, town squares, and cemeteries during Advent and Christmas morning, brass choirs announced the season with chorales, hymns, and antiphonal calls meant to inspire reflection, hope, and joy.
This intimate holiday performance features traditional Moravian chorales alongside beloved seasonal selections arranged for brass ensemble. Warm harmonies, ringing fanfares, and serene melodies evoke the stillness of winter evenings and the shared spirit of celebration that has connected generations through music.
Set within the historic and imaginative surroundings of Körner’s Folly, the concert offers audiences a moment to pause amid the busy holiday season—to reflect, rejoice, and experience the enduring power of music to bring communities together.
